You've been paying them a while. Have they delivered anything as yet or just fleeced you in your naivety? Even the tape-changer's plan B has produced a "loaf of bread" to date.
Probably because it's no faster than the competition, no more reliable than the competition, no more productive than the competion, no more feature rich than the competition, but costs a LOT more than the competition.
A bit like paying Mercedes money for a Kia.
Oracle will be less prevalent for the most interesting apps going forward though. Simply because of the overhead involved in scaling up Oracle versus competitors like Netezza, Teradata, Kognitio etc. Meanwhile SQL Server is picking up the reigns in the low volume end of things, simply because it's far cheaper to license and maintain.

Even though the volumes are not great Clientco is so pissed off being held to ransom by the Oracle DBAS, tulipe virtual servers and poor infrastructure they moved to Netezza. Two hour cubes builds took 30 seconds in Netezza and there was no-one around to bang on about how good PL/SQL is.
