He he. You geeks make I larf. Why don't you think of business applications to make you rich instead of discussing dull techie stuff that i could pay some bob in India to do*?
* and in fact am doing.
dull techie stuff
Oracle will be less prevalent for the most interesting apps going forward though. Simply because of the overhead involved in scaling up Oracle versus competitors like Netezza, Teradata, Kognitio etc. Meanwhile SQL Server is picking up the reigns in the low volume end of things, simply because it's far cheaper to license and maintain.Probably because it's no faster than the competition, no more reliable than the competition, no more productive than the competion, no more feature rich than the competition, but costs a LOT more than the competition.
A bit like paying Mercedes money for a Kia.

Clientco is presently moving to Netezza. Even though the volumes are not great Clientco is so pissed off being held to ransom by the Oracle DBAS, tulipe virtual servers and poor infrastructure they moved to Netezza. Two hour cubes builds took 30 seconds in Netezza and there was no-one around to bang on about how good PL/SQL is.![]()
You and Hill should set up a consultancy together. With your combined technical knowledge, you'd be a perfect supplier for the NHS.Anyone who still uses Oracle should be taken outside and shot in front of their families.
It is a dull thread (apart from Hill Station's rather amusing posts).
