The Union will survive, I hope. We all need each other and a load of bitching and whining about oil revenues, three/four/five etc. hundred year old injustices etc. won't change that. We need each other because we are a small island and we alll (mostly) get along with each other just fine (leaving the stirrers out of it).
I totally resent the politicians who make a career out of engineering differences between our citizens. It is so unnecessary as we can accomodate many different cultures and opinions, without thinking that means we have to have seperate countries.
Can't we all just get along?
"Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark Twain
But the differences in university fees, elderly care, prescription charges does cause resentment. A French student studying in Edinburgh does not pay tuition fees, an English student does. Hard to argue that we're all British.
That might change if universities north of the border put profit before worth while education but don't hold your breath.

The rule is that if you're British, but not resident in Scotland, then you pay fees. So the son of my Scottish colleague, who lives in Switzerland, has to pay the fees. His Swiss school friend doesn't.
I am English and would be quite happy for Scotland to go it alone, while we are on it I would also be fine with Northern Ireland to join up with the Republic, I guess that now Ireland is broke, this may not happen for quite a while.
No problem if Wales wants to go it alone either, although they are more integrated with England so probably less likely.
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero
I'm assuming that you meant to use the word "seeing".
As for the rest of your thinly disguised xenophobia, siding with the Germans just because they bailed you out of your sh!thole north of Hadrian's Wall just points out how shallow you really are.

I'm afraid that's true, that does cause resentment down my way. It wouldn't matter so much if it all came out of Scotch people's taxes.
It's not most Scottish people's fault though, one can't blame the people for enjoying the advantages. It was a previous government who set it up without thinking it through.

Which was a trait of theirs.
It is a very clever ploy by Alex Salmond. He knows he will never get a majority vote in Scotland for devolution. By introducing all these freebies in Scotland he is cajoling the English to demand Scotland is cut loose. This resentment from the English will persuade more Scots to vote for independence.
Oddly, it may also be his undoing. The Scots having a propensity to automatically gainsay anything the English propose would probably vote against devolution if the English insisted.
Just saying like.
where there's chaos, there's cash !
I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong!

I've noticed that Salmond uses divisive language similar to that of Sinn Fein's leaders. He'll often emphasise the word Scotland with the subtext of meaning 'not the United Kingdom' and refer to parliament as Westminster government or London.

I don't have a problem with that. After all, his long-term policy is Scotland's independence and he knows he's got a lot of spadework to do on hearts and minds.
