No you weren't. You were bitching that your rights were being trampled on because you were forced to quit your incessant yapping for two minutes. Where did you mention that you think it's false? You won't be alerting anyone to anything with a mouthful of mixed seeds. -

I usually head out the office when these things go on, can't really be arsed with the whole 'let's look serious while reading what is on my screen' nonsense. Personally I find the whole post Diana 'must look more respectful than the people next to me' slightly unnerving and I am sure most clients just arrange the whole thing to cover their arses from bad press.Comment

No. Each person should be spending the time contemplating why they're being silent, not checking everyone else is doing the same. It's supposed to mean something, not be like when you do praying at a school assembly.Originally posted by doodab View PostSilence requires everybody to participate. If you decide to "quietly have a chat" there is no silence, only the sound of your jibber jabber.
Matthew 6:5-6 is more my thinking. These public displays are as much about being seen to do the right thing as anything else.Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostWhy not? 1 Corinthians 9:20, 1 Peter 2:16

Precisely - it's about respect. Either respect for those killed, or if not that, respect for those around you who wish to take part. If you can't have either, then you're a dicksplash.Originally posted by Pondlife View PostThose that don't want to take two mins to reflect on the sacrifices of others don't have to. But it wouldn't hurt them to STFU for 120 seconds out of respect for their colleagues in the same work area that do.Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

One doesn't need to "check everyone else is doing the same" because it's blindingly obvious when they are not, and it makes the intended quiet contemplation impossible.Originally posted by d000hg View PostNo. Each person should be spending the time contemplating why they're being silent, not checking everyone else is doing the same. There is a big difference between being silent for two minutes and two minutes of silence. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Too much of this country is damaged by people's blind insistence on their right to do as they damn well please and sod everyone else. The OP's atitude is just one more expression of it.

+1. I dislike remembrance day more and more each year, but it's a bit mean-spririted not to respect those for whom it means something.Originally posted by MaryPoppins View PostPrecisely - it's about respect.
