Have to say I'm sceptical about claims from either side. Any evidence you can point me too, Snaw?

Alright young man, I'll concede you a point. You are absolutely correct that the effects are serious.

So are the effects of being hit by an Extinction Level asteroid.
So are the effects of the coming change in the earth's magnetic field.
So are the effects of a super-volcano in Yellowstone Park erupting.

But personally, I think you young 'uns worry too much. You need to relax more.

It's all very well spewing sanctimonious sewage about how important the issue is. That achieves nothing, dear boy. I seem to recall politicans favour this style. Style over substance they call it.

As I said, when I hear on the news next week about Snaw and his campaign to "Save The Planet (tm)", featuring your manifesto of scientifically proven steps, then I *might* take notice. *might*

Until then, you're just another sanctimonious gnat farting at the wind

I'm not a scientist so can't say what is good or bad evidence, I can only go on stuff I read over the years, and from my understanding the concensus viewpoint within the scientific community is that global warming is a fact (EVen the naysayers don't dispute this any more), and that our activities are the major reason for the accelerated trend we're seeing.

I'd imagine you're as capable as me of searching google and posting a few links but I occasionally read stuff like new scientist etc which is a reasonably neutral source of info:

        New Scientist
Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

Any forum is a collection of assorted weirdos, cranks and pervs - Board Game Geek

That will be a simply fab time to catch up for a beer. - Tay

You're making a pretty big assumption that the only thing I do is 'spout sanctimonios sewage' about global warming, but as much as possible I try to life my life in an eco friendly way and I'd say it's one of the key issues for my politics - to be honest most people are lazy when it comes to this sort of stuff so we need to make it easy and it's one of the few areas I'd want more government enforcement in.

If more people list enironmental issues as a major concern then politicians take notice - hell even Cameron is taking a step in the right direction on this issue. It doesn't and shouldn't be a matter of which side of the divide your politics lie on but unfortunately it's percived to be a lefty socialist isue, so incontinent old shirt dribblers like yourself bah humbug any mention of it.

BTW I don't think my giving a counter arguement to the one sided '**** the planet'tm nature of the thread so far is any more sanctimonios than most of the guff I read up till that point. Then again life is rather cozy on the old folks home that is the CUK BB.

While we're at it - your examples of catastrophic events are all perfectly valid, but there is one small differece between them and gobal warming (If you accept that we're a major cause). I'll let you figure it out.

            I Dont Believe It

Read State of Fear by Michael Crichton - yes it is a novel but scientific based and scores some excellent points. Temperature variation is natural and has always occurred, things will stabilise as they always have.

Iron rusts from disuse; water loses its purity from stagnation, and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigors of the mind.
