                    Laws of thermodynamics probably mean that its quite warm because the house will take heat from the earth in the side of the hill rather than leak it out of walls that are against the cold air 3k for a house seems like a good use of land.

                      Imagine the chaos the would ensue if people were to realise that better houses could be built by digging a hole in the ground or by stacking straw bales. Day's work + £50, versus a tulip box leaking to the elements and taking a lifetime to pay for. The only thing that prevents this is a massive ruling class conspiracy against the proles.
