Huge gas fields discovered under Blackpool

An area in northwest England may contain 200 trillion cubic feet of shale gas, putting it in the same league as some of the vast shale-gas plays that have transformed the U.S. energy industry...would be enough to meet U.K. gas demand for 64 years.

The only downside seems to be that Blackpool will get more earthquakes than normal and will disappear into a giant sink hole and that the water will taste funny. And that carbon thing.

Cuadrilla's announcement could lead to sharp upward revisions in estimates of Britain's shale-gas potential.

Dunno. Not watched either. It was used (and originated) in Battlestar Galactica though, since the late 70s.
