Essentially why it is thought a greater obscenity the flavour of nutter that is sitting on the council or in parliament?
According to a programme on R4 last night, the NHS is in serious trouble. Blair is pushing though change at breakneck speed, and it is creating turmoil. The health trusts have to decide how to allocate resources and hire people before they are told how much money they will get. Hence the recent layoffs as the trusts got it wrong. Tories and Libs agree that change is needed, but they claim that the way New Liar is implementing change is incompetent. That they thought that they could pour in money and it would all be okay. It sounds a bit like the education system, where new initiatives come along every few years.

Bunch of bleedin' socialist control phreaks. I'm not sure the Tories would be better though. The Tories Dr. bloke scares me. (Liam wotsit?)

I'm not sure what your last paragraph means.

Over 30% of the 200,000 new houses Prescot wants to build in the South East are needed for immigrants. (Government figures) This will certainly have an impact on water shortages.

I think the recent water shortages are due to insufficient rainfall over the Winter period. Rain falling in Spring and Summer tends to get sucked up by vegetation and does not have a chance to reach the aquifers. So Winter is important.

But if it wasn't for hordes of bleedin' Polish immigrants drinking gallons of funny ethnic tea ...

I am not sure the Tories didn't create half the problem anyhow with their phony internal market that caused an explosion of managers.

True free market principles are best but it isn't magic, they work because the companies and their workers can benefit financially by attracting customers with the quality or price of their service.

That does not apply to services like the NHS, you don't get more patients by cleaner wards. In my view they might have been better to stick with a good old fashioned centralised state run service.

As a chemical engineer I feel I must point out the basic law

            dm/dt = Win - Wout

It does not matter how small the input flow Win is, the size of the output flow Wout is always relevant in determining the rate of change of the mass you have.

I'm halfway through a can of beer, and my head was spinning when I read that. I'm not sure the beer was the cause. What you on with?

IMO the reason why government bodies such as councils are so arrogant is because they are monopolies. They have no reason to provide good service. Instead that serve themselves.

But you might have a point. I've often wondered how you can introduce a true market economy into the health service. But part of the problem must be that we all expect to be cured despite finite resources.

                  Sorry Fungus

It was slightly teasing, however that phrase reminded me of a Labour luvvie defending uncontrolled immigration.

As you mentioned its not a racial issue its a practical issue. I would be just as upset if we were importing millions of Aussie's or Americans especially if we failed to ascertain if they were actually who they say they were.

The water shortage isn't down to immigration but it can't help. The mess in the NHS is of our own making but the number of people arriving with serious communicable diseases aren't exactly helping to balance the books. Crime again is not solely down to immigration but the import of known criminals again seems counter productive.

By the way many of us were already saving more than enough for our pensions, if you want to solve the pensions crisis try rewarding those that save, not expecting them to subsidise those who don't. By the way its not just us 'rich' people who have been shafted, plenty of groundsmen etc saved and have watched their pensions raided.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

sasguru, sometimes the depth of your thinking resembles that of Mr Blobby!

I do not deny that low rainfall is a big factor, but you are suggesting that the large increase in people down there has not had an effect on the use of water. They must be very dirty and dehydrated people!

I'm sorry to learn about your low IQ. Unfortunately there's not much that can be done.
