In the Victorian era slum dwellers had to share a tap.

    The water was cold.

However like your simple explanation d00hg and my explanation of old housing stock ATW and the rest of the Eastern Europeans still won't get it.

Trick is to clean your sink /basin very regularly. Unlike in many countries UK sinks/basins come with plugs.

Or turn your hot water temperature down so you will not scald yourself and use the kettle for really hot water.

To be honest the only place I nearly burnt myself was in a shower in France. UK places tend to make sure the hot water is not hot enough for you to burn yourself from the hot tap even if it feels really hot.

Loads of people suffer rental accommodation in this country and with the reported standard of some of it you should be glad to get hot water from a tap.

Look, it's like this - a house (old or new) costs a LOT of money - totally crazy amount, so why the fook people right now keep suffering separate taps when they can get new nice high power boiler and merge taps to enjoy living in their house, FFS - if you can afford £150k+ to buy a house then surely getting some newish boiler is a no brainer?

I am going to write a letter to my labour MP that I voted against twice to demand she raises this during PMQ and demand amendment to the law that all houses to get single tap and good boilers, otherwise they are unsafe dwellings.

Are you for real? They do it in 3rd world countries ffs - maybe they use pots, not kettles, but still the same thing

              Quiet.

They do it by having total tulip boilers that can't heat up water well so in winter it feels like in Stalingrad - it is complete coincidence that the landlord saves lots of money in this setup, of course all they care is not to boil the person who will use it!

Not everyone can afford the £3000 plus VAT to get a qualified plumber to change their boiler.

You mean the same people who rent out houses for £600+ per month or the same people who get £200k+ mortgage to buy said house?

The flat I rent now was recently build, nice boiler with hot water on single tap, but FFS having a science park with separate taps is a disgrace - going to write a complaint tomorrow

                    Agreed.

The English laws on property rental are anarchic. However this Coalition government refused to endorse and enforce the notion that landlords should be regulated even though some councils allow the payment of housing benefit (tax payers money) to landlords houses that are not fit for human habitation.

I think you would get a better response from your MP from moaning about the dangerous housing that is allowed to be rented out in terms of damp, dangerous electrics, rotting floors, leaking roofs, central heating that doesn't work, etc then moaning about having two separate taps.

Until houses for rent are up to a decent standard in terms of the structure of the building having one mixer tap is not a massive concern.

Edited to say: If you want your MP to take your mixer tap concern seriously mention children getting scalded from hot water.
