The word from Norway is that the individual who was arrested following the shootings at the youth camp is a Norwegian, and is also believed to have been responsible for planting the car bomb. The police have indicated that they are aware of the his ideological leanings, and they do not believe he has connections with any international group.

It is rumoured that he is a Neo-Nazi who was previously arrested in 2001 in possession of explosives, weapons and police uniforms, but this hasn't yet been confirmed by the authorities.

Apparently when he went to the youth camp on the island of Utøya he was dressed as a police officer and called everybody to gather round him, saying he had been sent to protect them because of the bombing. Once they were all gathered, he opened fire with an automatic weapon.

Some of the young people resorted to trying to swim to the mainland. It's believed some of them may have drowned in the attempt.

A single nearby hospital had treated 38 injured youngsters as of half an hour ago. There are more than 50 ambulances on the scene, and more are still arriving.
