Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

One of my nieces gave up her Law Career after a few years of disillusionment, to train as a teacher.
She is currently working as one, but not on a permanent basis. At their Strike Meeting a few weeks ago, she stood up and said "Why should I be expected to vote for a Strike that I don't agree with, and where I will also lose a day's Pay, and still be amongst the first ones to be ditched during any cuts that might result?"
The answer was along the lines of "If you don't support the Permies, you have fook all chance of ever becoming one!"

Teachers? Meh.......hanging is too good for them!!

Quick question to those that may know.

Why is it illegal for agencies to supply staff to cover for those on strike? I should think that neither the agencies nor subs are members of the unions taking action?

I spend a lot of time in Holiday Inn and its amazing how many training conferences are held for the public sector workshy. Free food and booze !
I was once staying in a ridiculously expensive country hotel and trying not to rack up too many expenses (the cheapest thing on the menu was chicken at 17 quid, back in the early 90s). The place was full of public sector workers, VAT folks included, going for the most expensive things on the menu.

It did however change my mind about what was an acceptable amount to claim for a "subsistence meal" on my VAT return and tax form. Every cloud has a silver lining

W.T.F. couldn't they have had their days "training" during the six f**king weeks holiday they've just had?
I said this to a teacher once (not quite in those word of course) the response i got was "even teachers are entitled to time off why should we take it in our time off"

Did the teachers strike when you were of school age?

Just asking. You know, given the clues and all...

Prince II course last year, all but 2 people were public sector and virtually none were PM's. Nurses, admin people etc. A couple said they had been offered the course but didnt know what it was for at the time !
One said they were there to use up the training budget to avoid it being dropped next year !!!
Oh and a couple of them were 'kin clueless and couldn't have passed o'level Prince.

I seem to recall they were always on strike during the 60s.

Made a regular habit of it.
Direct Grant skool here. Different union and I don't remember them striking once.

Got heckled by some pickets not to attend lectures at Uni, but we were on the way to the library anyway. I don't think they'd thought that one out very well, 'cos it was exam swotting season rather than lecture season.
