Nonsense. There's numerous skills involved in 'thinking'. The problem with logic is that it is only as good as the premises and/or assumptions made. That's why so many academics talk tulipe.

    How about:
    1. Initiative.
    2. Planning.
    3. Foresight.
    4. Subject knowledge.
    5. Ability to locate information.
    6. Risk taking.
    7. Ability to see through bulltulip (from boss, agent etc).
    8. Critical faculty.
    9. Imagination.

Oh and in case you think this is sourr grapes talking, I got a first in Physics from IC.

I haven't used the maths and physics that I studied to gain income, but I have used it in how I see the universe.

The former is just a means to an end (making a living); the latter is part of what I am.

So studying has not been useful, but it has been more than useful.

My friend and I have both ended up working in IT.

He went to Uni, where he slacked off and cheated his way through.

I worked, and learnt on the job, in my own time and through experience.

We both had great social lives.

We both moved away from home.

Only difference is, I'm much better off now financially.

The years he spent as a student building up debt, I spent earning money and saving.

Only consider a Uni if you want to become a developer, or have a bizarre yearning to work for Accenture. Except then you would also need a labotomy.
        Be seeing you

And of course you're happier than him, are you? A better, more rounded human being perhaps? A nicer person than him? A less boastful, arrogant person than him.
And of course, like all flesh in the end he'll die, but you're immortal.
Wow, you're great, can I have your autograph?
          Why not?

But some of the ones that did, now earn several hundred thousand a year in the City. Looking at some of the adverts a few years ago made me wish I'd done theoretical physics.
            I'm alright Jack

Sorry Blaster but this has the same validity as people claiming to have seen chain smokers living until they're 80 years old healthy.

I know already two people with a PhD in physics who had to cross-train to teaching as they couldn't find any job.
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

Steady on DG, this is conduct hardly befitting a man of your standing. Rein it in boy!

Yes, but there are PhDs and PhDs aren't there! There's the ones who you need to watch constantly as they might pick up the soldering iron up by the wrong end, they become teachers. Then there are the ones with a clue.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.
threadeds website, and here's my blog.
