oh dear so the 800 year tradition of going to University was a big mistake.

    What about school ?

Why don't we just send 10 year olds off to earn their living. Might help solve the pensions crisis.
    I'm alright Jack

No, it's a good business for the banks who can rip off the new graduates for 10 years while they struggle to make over 25k in their admin job, while in the meantime carpenters/plumbers have to decide whether they want go for a bmw or a merc.

Seriously Blaster, there are a number of reasons for a good education (although the University is only one place where you can get it), and money is certainly not the one.
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

I got a 2:2 from a redbrick in "European Studies" the did a PgD in IT (Masters but left before project). So i hardly excelled. Had loads of fun though.

Started off in crappy IT McJob. Went through two of those over 2 and a bit years. Was crap but studied OU and MCSE exams in spare time. Was earning 13k at start rising to 19k.

Then I got a break as a junior consultant, two years later I'm making 60k at 26 years old. The stuff I learned at university has been absolutely vital for this but at times it seemed like I was going to be underpaid and overskilled for ever.

So I suppose there is nothing bad about doing your time working your way up the ladder. You can't expect to land a top job straight out of uni but if you work hard you will get there.

I have a big cardboard box with MSDN written on it in thick black marker.
