A fluke would be a result obtained by a single lucky goal Shirley?Originally posted by d000hg View PostFluke results aren't the same, when next time you comprehensively beat them back. Against Barcelona, they played fairly OK and still got twonked.
In my book 4 and 5 goals conceded is a hiding especially as one of them was on their own ground.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

No, a fluke in the sense one team played poorly that game and/or the other played perfectly. Football is a game of average performances, hence we don't end up with the top-2 league teams in the cup-final every year.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostA fluke would be a result obtained by a single lucky goal Shirley?

However you can't really say Utd had a terrible performance, they were just outclassed by a Barcelona team who didn't even look like they were trying hard. Like Andy Murray can play his best, and still get thumped by Nadal.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

OK so in your opinion a victory over Man Utd can only be a fluke unless it's against Barca??
Scoring 4 and 5 goals respectively is getting comprehensively beaten by the better team on the day IMO.
fluke 3 (flk)
n.
1. A stroke of good luck.
2. A chance occurrence; an accident.
3. An accidentally good or successful stroke in billiards pool.
4. Man U getting stuffed 4-1 at Old Trafford. "Dad I don't understand, I've never seen Man U beaten before? I know son it must be a fluke, now get back in the X5 it's a gonna be a long journey back down the M1. Prawn sandwich anyone?"Science isn't about why, it's about why not. If Team A beats Team B 5-0, then next game the score is reversed, you don't have a way to say one team is better. Hence it's not really meaningful... on occasion all the top 3-4 teams have twonked each other. If team A beats team B every time, it's a show of superior class.
I don't see why that's hard to understand. Having a proper discussion with a real fan of any team is kind of pointless though.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Maybe he should look at the league table to see who is superior or the number of times each team has won the league.Originally posted by d000hg View PostIf Team A beats Team B 5-0, then next game the score is reversed, you don't have a way to say one team is better. Oh FFS I give up, I was arguing your definition of fluke not which team is best.
One thing is clear, Man U fans don't know how to lose gracefully or take a bit of banter.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous?
