I always mention this in divorce threads - watch it! Your wife can "shop around" for the best deal. Mine chose to get divorced in London even though neither of us has ever lived there or had any connection with the place. This was because they generally give more man-crippling divorces.

It's not all bad though. We didn't have any kids and eventually even her ridiculous lawyers had to give up on her claims for spousal maintenance. Getting rid of her was one of the best things I ever did.

Now I am happily unmarried and have a child (as I always wanted) and I have learned a valuable lesson about the archaic and crazy laws around marriage. I also would always be the last to voluntarily consult a lawyer for anything. None of this is a bad thing.

In Cornwall a fortnight ago the chippy at the Lizard was doing deep fried creme eggs.

Worryingly you can't get further south than that.

Of course there's nothing to stop you taking the same approach and initiating things yourself. I understand that the North / South divide rule generally applies with Newcastle being one of the most "man friendly" (or should that read least unfair). If she's not filed her petition and you're 100% its over, file yours.

I was bled dry for 6 months before I filed a Form A and essentially cut my 'lifestyle subsistance' to the ex by a fair whack in a very sharp fashion. It didn't quite make up for the £2.5k / month average I paid to the solicitor but there were other factors more important than money that chewed up a lot of expense also.

Brilliant - turns out a 50:50 split is a dream for most as you will have to turn over much more than that to get a 'clean break'....
Find one with more money is the only way to hedge this I fear !
I agree that the olden days way of chucking her on the streets penniless is completely wrong but surely it's gone too far the other way now.

Dear god, it seems everyone who went through a divorce got fleeced.

Am I the only one who got away clean?
