There is no such thing as too much money, only too little imagination

I can advise you for £500 a day. I've got over 10 years experience and I'm widely regarded as an expert.

1 - Work out exactly how dire the money situation is. In detail. And then produce a summary.

2 - Discuss the options with your partner. They seem pretty clear cut to me - (a) move somewhere in the UK that is cheaper and save some money; (b) move to Germany and save even more money; (c) split

You need to get the options straight in her tiny little mind - there isn't much choice in the matter any more. There are some new 0% cards out there though at the moment that might buy a little time, but that really isn't the answer.

Give her a timescale to work out what she wants to do.

If you moved in the UK, would that help enough? What about if you moved further out from the south (apparently, we now have phones, cars, trains, the internet, electricity and all sorts of new fangled stuff in't north). If not, then you have only two options - Germany or nothing.

I can understand that she doesn't want to move to another country, but you need to get it clear that the situation is dire and that it's that or nothing really.

So you're neighbours with an unsuccesful plumber FFS. You must be very low down the pecking order.
My neighbours are lawyers and bankers who've paid for their houses with cash.
        Hard Brexit now!

That's nothing. My neighbours must be loaded, they never go to work and the council gave them their houses!

This has been mentioned, as I saw a job in Yorkshire advertised. Her exact words were "I'm not ******* moving up north. **** off."

Although for some reason she is willing to consider Swindon

It's just snobbishness. She has never lived outside of London.

That was in Swindon. If you are failed plumber in Swindon, it is equivalent to a top city banker in London.
