    Went once many years ago.

To be honest, actually looking to buy a holiday place and Lanzarote looks a good bet. Don't think Canary island prices have been hit as badly as mainland Spain, but like everything you need to have a look. In the past would just up and go, but I
possible now and having your own place looks a good bet.

You and Churchy fancy going halves?

Bagsy half terms an school holidays though

It's so laid back, lots of amazing places to eat, some lovely beaches, no high-rises, easy to get around. Stuff to do including seeing the volcano and villages in the mountains. I've been probably 10 or 12 times now. Some years, twice a year. I never get bored of it.

I probably haven't sold it too well but I know quite a few on here sing it's praises, so probably someone can describe it better than me

Erm.... I'll have to talk it over with himself!

I prefer it to mainland Spain. It kind of feels like it's stayed Spanish even though there is clearly a big expat community.

It's 14 years since I went, but we liked it. Stayed 2 weeks - one week for doing bugger all, and one week hired a car and toured the island. Volcano was cool, and there was lagoons and caves, as well as gardens and art galleries. Well worth escaping the tourist resorts and looking around. Had two kids at the time - 11 and 4 and they liked it too - we went for a resort with a kids club, so kept them out the way leaving me and hubby to relax. 3rd child arrived 9 months later...

So what are good areas then. If you were to buy somewhere what are the locations you would look at and where would you avoid?

I'd probably go with Puerto Del Carmen - the town has lots of options for eating and stuff. Teguise (sp?) is supposed to be nice too but I've never stayed there.

My friend stays at La Santa village loads of times and she loves it over that side of the Island.

I'd probably avoid Matagorda... too many Paddys

wow. A nice chill out holiday is ok, but one where you come back with such solid memories is gold dust. imo

The landscape is more like Mars. Very little natural vegetation, very little rain and you wonder how people could have survived there. They were incredibly inventive and managed to collect and save water by building cisterns and collecting the condensation from clouds.
The sea is lovely and warm, the beaches are beautiful. They do not allow high rise buildings. What's not to like?
