    Indeed.

Consider this. How often does the queen lie in the course of her duty? Or prince Charles or any of the royals for that matter. Very rarely in this day and age.

Now compare and contrast with elected politicians.

But instead we could follow the lead of the Roman Republic and have the People as the sovereign body.

Severe concerns have been raised in the past about the Prince of Daftness using his unearned influence over planning issues. He has also stated publicly that he will not follow the hands off line of his mother.

Those who influence our society should be those whose influnce was gained by merit in my my view. We condemn welfare scroungers for getting a few hundred a week and then hand these people millions. Charles and Andrew are total dipsticks who would be hard pushed to make floor managers at Tescos if they had to compete for jobs like the rest of us.

I'll think you'll find they were just as manipulated as we are. The top jobs were only for the rich and the voting system was heavily skewed in favour of the rich as well.

If you want that then fuck off to Rome and do as the Romans do.

Ah, tradition and evocative words. Tradition is a double edged sword, on one hand it helps give identity and meaning on the other it smoothers change.

Just because something is 'traditional' doesn't make it right; it still needs to be assessed periodically as having any worth.

Interesting Churchy - I'm no royalist (No tulip sherlock), but I was under the impression the royals were Great Britain's, not England's. Just goes to show though, eh?

The Royal Family are the biggest load of over-privileged, dysfunctional, underemployed German fookwits that ever leached off a country.
If we must have a symbolic Royal family why not rotate the position so that every year a new unemployed, under-privileged family had the job.
Would work just as well and make for interesting telly.
