Land's End to John o' Groats is the traversal of the whole length of the island of Great Britain between two extremities; in the southwest and northeast. The distance by road is 874 miles (1,407 km) and takes most cyclists ten to fourteen days; the record for running the route is nine days. Off-road walkers typically walk 1,200 miles (1,900 km) and take two or three months for the expedition. Two much-photographed signposts indicate the distance at each end.
So allow 3 weeks and we should do it, or die trying.
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

OK well you can run on ahead, and spend a week in John O'Groats waiting for me.

Logistics is crucial. Not gonna cycle with laptops and clothes etc strapped to my back. Accomodation booked in advance, local volunteers with car required to take kit between stops.

The one thing that worries me is if something happens en route and you can't make your stop. Is it not better to take a Nomadic approach. (Probably not if lugging kit around).

Can you not get the time off properly so we are freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Or use my netbook (which I will be using for diarising)?

Possibly but settings goals on a daily basis is a spur not to be lazy.

My goal is to cover at least 50 miles per day. That way on a good day you can overachieve. 17.48 days on a 50 mile/day average with 2.52 days available for a "jolly up" in John O'Groats

Does anyone know if that lad who took 2 weeks off to travel from Lands End to John O Groats on Google Streetview make it?

That's about 3-4 hours cycling (taking your time)! Surely you could double that. 50 miles a day isn't a challenge, unless the terrain is hectic. I'd be interested in doing this but not at a slow pace.

I'd always planned to do this as well but stopped cycling about 4 years ago when the
kids came along. With a decent road bike you should be aiming at 70 miles a day
minimum. 10-15 mph would be fine. If you're used to a mountain bike then it's 8-10mph and 50 is a push.

Cycled from Hampshire to Devon years ago and used to do canel
                      paths.

Always fancied walking the highland way, but three weeks? Nope. Two weeks max.
