Lands end to John O'Groats - sans training

One of my dreams was to achieve cycling this distance. As the years roll on, I get older, greyer, fatter, balder I see this dream slipping away.

The obstacle is the 30 miles of cycling per night you need to do (I am told). ClientCo keeps me chained to my desk from at least 8am to 7pm at the moment and after that I'm in no mood to go cycling. In the summer of course I do go cycling in the evening, but only when I am not baby sitting.

So this dream is pretty much a non starter.

Until tonight. I was thinking this through (beer head on) and I came up with this.

Lands end to John O'Groats, with no training.

Seriously. You get the pre-requisite sponsorship in place, with the necessary caveats so they have to pay something even though you don't finish. With minimum distance clause obviously.

Any you just go for it. Why spend a lifetime of making excuses when you can just get off your arse and have a go. Failure expected. Success a surprise. And diarise the whole thing, via you tube.

Even in failure there would be some success as it would make others think, frak it, he had a go I'll try.

Serious post so treat as such, although mild banter appreciated.

I know some on here have done the jaunt, and will sneer.

Any desk bound CUKers fancy just giving it a go for the hell of it? I mean seriously, why not?

Am I mad, or could we just get a bit fitter, make a bit for charity and have a good laugh to boot?

The alternative is of course dismissing this and staying chained to a desk, or just making a donation to charity and then staying chained to a desk.

    Would value serious input here.
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Count me in. As long as there's beer and curry at the end of every day I'll be happy. And decent accommodation of course without a shared shower and shiiter.

Oh we won't slum it old friend, to the contrary. And make big charitable donations at the end.

          But I am serious.

Just in case it isn't obvious my pot bellied mistachioed Russion co-poster, we are ignoring you.

Please post something to contribute to the thread.

I'm serious too. Discovered last year that I'm not the knackered auld fcker I thought I was when I managed a couple of mountains here with relative ease.

Right. You are signed up. When do we do this? Spring?

Soon as you like, need access to ClientCo via WiFi to keep them happy. And a bike - recommendations welcome.

Already committed dates - April 15- 17th at Maddy Prior's place doing some singing but could use that as a break. Already booked into a nearby hostelry that apparently does great beer and food but could be a useful weekend break if doing it that early. Sometime in May onwards to be decided I'll be in the US / Canada for about 2 months so that'll be a showstopper.
