I suspect it's caused by watching that TV programme that produced a Jaguar 4.2 litre engined replica of the Rover Turbine P4 that's in the Science museum.

I can remember that Rover featuring in a Ladybird book of cars that I had as a nipper.

Facel Vega, Borgward Isabella, Zwicky road sweeper, De Tomaso, to name a few.

I have spotted a Zwicky factory just north of Zurich. Probably one of the few survivors of the companies represented in that book.

A good spec german motor of 2-4 years old will be a lot more satisfying than a year-old 12k motor of any type.

I had a couple of well specced Audis that I bought at ~2 years old. I got substantially better trade-in prices than I would have done if I had spent the same money on newer Fords or Vauxhalls, plus London and back in a day (from Yorkshire) was doable without feeling the slightest bit tired.
