The number of unemployed people rose by 108,000 to 1.54 million between October and December, the ONS said.

That pushed the jobless rate up to 5.1% - the highest rate for three years - from 4.8% in the previous quarter.



Now factor in those on "incapacity benefits" and the true figure is a very different Britain to the much touted "Miracle Economy" that the New Lie crow on about to the proles.

Are you unemployed with no hope of finding a job?

Now that the trend is not in ZanuNL's favour just wait for them to introduce yet another new statistical way to measure unemployment.

Once the recession starts to bite as the economy softens the numbers will simply not make for very good spin - then again I am sure we will all be fine as our houses are all worth so much these days

Having trawled through http://www.statistics.gov.uk/ I have found it very hard to find any data that provides a consistent employment measure comparing each of the past 25 years.

Perhaps its just a coincidence the data isnt easy to interpret !

Does anybody have a good source of consistent data that is not subject to the spin machine ?

Oh by the way if you look at the net increase of jobs in the Private Sector against the number lost unemployment would have gone up, it is only the jobs in the Public Sector that has prevented this. At one time 13 out of every 14 jobs job created since 1997 was in the Public Sector (net increase in employment)
