Its chucking it down again here, I passed through Linlighgow on the train and you could only see the top of some fence posts on the fields. Hopefully we get a 3pm finish again :-)

Not according to the empirical evidence.Originally posted by VectraMan View PostThe point of ABS is to allow you to steer having slammed on the brakes in panic, and on ice you can't steer anyway. A good driver can outbrake ABS in all conditions because the maximum stopping force is before the ABS cuts in. On ice, at best ABS acheives nothing because it removes all the braking force as soon as you touch the brakes.
ABS-braking tests on ice with 66 ordinary drivers
It may be possible to outbrake ABS in theory but for most people most of the time it isn't the case, especially with the modern ABS systems that vary the braking force of each wheel individually and only release enough pressure to unlock the wheel. If there is a problem with it, it's that it encourages a false sense of security and people drive faster than is safe given the road conditions. With summer tires on an icy road that's about walking pace. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Makes sense. Kind of what I thought, but I didn't want to try and outsmart the ABS only to find it's reassessing 4000 times a second or something similarly inhuman

Oohh!
Just looks a little better, just before it freezes tonight...
We went to our local for a few beers and a sausage and mash - not that bad on the roads, just not happy walking on the pavements.
Hoping South of Sheffield will soon be linked to the rest of the country...
