Legalities aside, if this is an IT job, I am not sure how you can be confident that you will get the best applicant for the job if he/she was born here.
I have seen plenty of really crap applicants apply for my jobs who wre born in Uk/EU.Vote Corbyn ! Save this country !Comment

True but I have yet to see an capable import - I can filter TH EU candidates at the interview stage but as I have already said don't want to be flooded with unsuitable applicants from abroadOriginally posted by fullyautomatix View PostLegalities aside, if this is an IT job, I am not sure how you can be confident that you will get the best applicant for the job if he/she was born here.

You should hire the best person for the job, based on their skill, not be forced to hire incompetents so you are PC.Originally posted by d000hg View PostYou're absolutely right. All this guff about having to hire women and disabled people as well, the world's gone mad.

Yes, you can hire the best person for the job, based on their skill. No-one is forced to hire incompetents so that they are PC or to fulfil quotas. I suggest you stop reading the Daily Mail if you think that's the case.Originally posted by markmm View PostYou should hire the best person for the job, based on their skill, not be forced to hire incompetents so you are PC.
Thankfully, Troll's approach is illegal, and massively dated. If you really want only UK born (how would you know - I don't think I've ever told an employer or clientco where I was born?) then you'll have to weed them out at application stage, but denying someone the chance to even apply based on where they were born is ridiculous nonsense thank christ.
Fwiw, my understanding of "bob" is that bob is an incompetent IT worker from overseas, usually from India. Not all Indian IT workers are bobs IMO - but that's just my interpretation. My client co has a few Indian contracters and they're excellent. They also have an Indian outsource centre and, with a few exceptions, they're all useless. So being born in another country doesn't mean you're incompetent.Comment

Are you forced to hire incompetents? The whole point of the rules is so you don't base decisions on non-competency issues. For instance, if you say "no Indians" you're discriminating because you are dismissing them before even getting to see if they are competent.Originally posted by markmm View PostYou should hire the best person for the job, based on their skill, not be forced to hire incompetents so you are PC.
a)You should be able to scan and toss a totally useless CV in a few seconds
b)Even if you said "No Indians" they would probably still apply, the useless ones anyway will apply for every job they see
Also it's dumb to say there are no good imports. Even if we did decide the Indian education system cannot produce any good people, lots of Indians go to university in Europe/US. These are probably the ones you want, though they might not be much cheaper than local alternatives because they are the cream on top of a big rotten cake.Last edited by d000hg; 25 November 2010, 13:03.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Discrimination in employment law must be a complex area, and I imagine there are loopholes in exceptional cases.Originally posted by AtW View PostIt's against the law (in most cases).
E.g. in TV and acting, they might have some loophole to ensure that prominent white characters are not played by dark skinned actors, and conversely prominent black characters played by 'blacked up' white people.
I think it would be more controversial to see a white man 'blacked up', than it would be to rule them out of the casting based on their colour.Comment
