He was chasing around for 3 minutes to protest his innocence, before and after the penalty.
Weir: "It was not a penalty"
Gough: "It was not a penalty"

Come on give him his due, he wasn't looking at it, he thought he got a foot to the ball. He's watched the replay he's put his hands up. You can't fault it.

No mention has been made of wanting more money by the Refs.Originally posted by wobbegong View Post
In fact the Head of Refereeing Development has not spoken at all.........about any aspect of this. But he DID put himself forward for a radio interview the day following the incident, at a point in time when he was well aware of what had actually happened, and during which he attempted to perpetuate the version that has since been proven to have been a lie.
Despite the smokescreen of "alleged death threats" to referees and their families, it would appear that very few, if any, have been reported to the Police. The linesman directly involved in this latest flashpoint categorically denied that he had resigned over "death threats" to his family. He explained his decision as having been solely induced by bullying from within the Scottish Referees framework.
What it "appears" to be about is the Refs being upset that their honesty, integrity, and performance levels are being consistently brought into question.
All this blowing up on the weekend where the papers leaked the story about 80% of them failing the Ref's Competency Test. And all shortly after the Ref in question, Dougie McDonald, had been caught lying, closely aided and abetted by his Gaffer Hugh Dallas. The same Hugh Dallas that is currently under internal investigation by his employers for sending sectarian emails.
Now it is being engineered to look as though it is simply Celtic that are complaining here, but it does not take much detective work to find vitriolic criticism of our referees by various other managers and Chairmen currently active within the Scottish game. People like Steven Thompson the Dundee United Chairman, in tandem with his manager Peter Houston. People like Vladimir Romanov, the Hearts Chairman. Jim Jefferies, whose perennial griping about poor refereeing decisions is almost legendary. And not forgetting our current National Coach, Craig Levein. It strikes me that if you want to see what calibre of referee certain teams within the SPL set-up would be quite content with, you need only have watched the Rangers v Man Utd match last night. Both the crowd and the home players appeared to be gobsmacked on every occasion where a 50/50 tackle was not given in their favour. That is the norm they have come to expect. As for the penalty award, Walter Smith the Rangers manager stated that it should not have been awarded as it was "an accident". Richard Gough, a former Rangers captain, said it was "debatable". Sir Alex Ferguson described it as an assault. I rest my case.
And yet despite this backdrop, the Referees cannot see why people might question their integrity and ability?

This just gets better!!!
Freelance journalist Phil Mac Giolla Bhain has revealed on his web site that Scottish FA Head of Referee Development, Hugh Dallas, offered to call off the referees strike if his disciplinary hearing into the Pope email was called off.
Mac Giolla Bhain claims Scottish FA chief executive, Stewart Regan, “went ballistic”, shouting “How F****** dare you! Don’t ever raise that again. Those two matters are totally unrelated.”
Attempts by the referees’ chief to link the current referee strike to a sectarian investigation completely discredits not only the referees’ current action but casts a long shadow over their integrity.
Scottish clubs will be outraged that their very livelihood being used as a bargaining chip in a sectarian investigation.
Mac Giolla Bhain also reports eight people are subject to disciplinary hearings today, with Dallas due to meet the association at 17:00.
