I'm very rarely involved in scuffles on the pitch; occasionally step in to stop team mates getting punched, but I've not thrown punches myself. Never been sent off or cautioned in 30 years of playing and I'd like to keep it that way.

Personally, I didn't say anything silly to them.

I was a bit disappointed when Trevor Leota sat on my little bag of cheese sandwiches, but being such a delightful chap he immediately offered me one of his 3 (!) grilled chickens. Really, he looks like a beast but he's a very nice man (bloody good job too).

No, although I think sometimes standing your ground can make you less likely to get attacked. Worked for me so far anyway.

WXS. On my home turf I can get away with using humour to defuse a situation. Off home turf that's not quite so easy, but it can be done.

I played them, and played Marauders who included two former NZ sevens players and finally beat the Pacific chaps and I don't mind saying I was, erm, 'apprehensive' about both games. Turned out OK, only one black eye, a few bruised ribs, but no missed tackles! Got totally flattened by this bloke having had the temerity to throw a dummy against his team mate and then think 'oh tulip, I've still got the ball haven't I'.

Shall be back for more next year!
