I can't even make an informed opinion... any discussion on the topic quickly deteriorates into a slanging match, regardless which side is most prevalent on that particular forum. I give up... I'm suspicious the moment it gets politically motivated but that doesn't mean it's not correct.

Global warming is a scam to make money for the global government. Nothing more.Originally posted by RichardCranium View PostI've lost the plot with this global warming / climate change stuff.
I used to care passionately about environmental damage and knew a fair deal about the subject at one time. I could - and still can - talk about soil erosion, the impact of Roman land laws on the formation of the desert in North Africa during Roman times, the impact of monocultures and all sorts.
But I just don't care any more.
This whole politicisation of the 'debate' about whether we've screwed the atmosphere has completely drained me of any faith in either side or any remnant of giving a toss any more.
I had little faith in politicians; now I have none. They really will lie and sell the planet just to line their own pockets. And the pig-tulip ignorant media lap up their soundbites and belittle the scientists regardless of their output.
If this ultimately results in the death of the lot of us, maybe it's just as well: it's what we deserve.

For a long time now I've been of the opinion that, if intelligent life from another world was to visit ours, they would back off rapidly on the basis that the planet was infested with some species of louse that was sucking it dry without any apparent understanding that, once the host dies, all the lice die. No intelligent species would want to risk being infested by usOriginally posted by RichardCranium View PostIf this ultimately results in the death of the lot of us, maybe it's just as well: it's what we deserve.

A lady friend said something similar to me some years ago: that humanity is like a disease on the surface of the Earth, destroying everything it touches, and it should be eradicated and just like in one's own body, Mother Earth will do so herself, in time.Originally posted by NickFitz View PostFor a long time now I've been of the opinion that, if intelligent life from another world was to visit ours, they would back off rapidly on the basis that the planet was infested with some species of louse that was sucking it dry without any apparent understanding that, once the host dies, all the lice die. F**king lentil eaters! Can't they see that they're part of the problem.Originally posted by RichardCranium View PostA lady friend said something similar to me some years ago: that humanity is like a disease on the surface of the Earth, destroying everything it touches, and it should be eradicated and just like in one's own body, Mother Earth will do so herself, in time.
Anyway, f**k it, in the grand scheme of things we're only visitors.
