Absolutely loving the fact the drill that did the job is called 'Plan B'.
    Haha,
Schramm TX130, they commonly make hole for geothermal heating. I saw one the other week at a new housing complex, cutting through granite like a knife through butter..

The thrid hole plan C would have been drilled by Varco Rig 421, not 422 as BBC states, but I understand they haven't got it mobilised on site.

The first hole Plan A with a Strata 950 was a bit optimistic.

It's quite interesting watching this as a case study scenario for the emergency planning module of NEBOSH Diploma I'm working toward ...which is my Plan B.

I'm wondering how they have achieved downhole comms for communication with ascending patients and the telemedicine app. I haven't seen a separate wireline for the comms to the pod. Is it wireless?

I think you'll find they passed the time by playing Angry Birds.

Two opposing views of this in the Troll household

One view is that it is all wonderful, real life theatre and enthralling to watch

The other view is that as a media event they appear to be milking this for all its worth and possibly dragging it out

& as a further clue one of the observers likes watching X-Factor while the other sees it as cheap TV nothing more than karaoke
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

There was some mention of a cable being used for communications on the news this morning, which I thought they called a steel wire and talk of some clever technology being employed.

8 down (or up) and 25 to go, unless some stay behind. This could go on for some time. The News channels are still in wall-to-wall coverage mode, will they have the endurance to see this through to the end? Even when other news is being reported, the screen is split so that no mine coverage is missed. I gather there are thousands of media people on site.

They say they can bring one up an hour, so another 23 hours to go at that rate, barring refusals.
