These are b'stard to shake, I have pulled (mumpf mumpf) this area a couple of times and it has been months before they were ok again.
I did tend to carry on playing though and just live with the pain afterwards.
I expect there are ways to heal these quicker but I just used the - oh well, it's not really that bad, just leave it to fix itself technique, favoured by blokes everywhere...

No ligaments there except in your hip joint. Could possibly be tendon or the muscle sheath, but I don't think so. You should see a physio anyway if it's gone on that long.

However, if it's a partial muscle tear it could take 2 or 3 months; healing isn't helped by flu either.

Does it hurt when you lift your leg in a standing position?

it does if i lift and roll the leg outwards like in a warm up.

also if i try simple stretches

this last day or so it has gone from that to a dull ache

true story - allegedly. A bloke in the army in my unit was blessed with three goolies, known as a 'polyorchid'
his party piece was to flash them in the naafi. So he says to this marine one night, 'hey guess what, between us we've got five bollocks'

'why, have you only got one?'

Hmm, indeed; sounds like a hip adductor strain.

                Try this;

Pulled Groin Muscle (Hip Flexor/Adductor Strain)

I suggest you start at the chapter ' Recovery Exercises (Week 2 – Week 3) ' as you've probably lost a couple of weeks healing due to flu.

Hope it helps. Also useful; get good quality neoprene support shorts (not the cheapo thin lycra stuff) that are tight and wear them under your shorts when training or playing; they provide good support, compression (which is very important), and keep the muscles warm.

Aside from that, I'm afraid that if you do a speed based sport like 5-a-side football you'll have to accept that you'll get injuries and you're probably going to feel some of those injuries for the rest of your life. I don't think I've had a day without some kind of pain since I started playing rugby when I was 7.

                  Look start with a stretch.

Then you put your left leg in.

                  Out.

                  In.

Out but then shake it all about.

                  Do the Hokey Cokey

                  Turn around

                  That's what it's all about

It could be a strangulated hernia.
