On a different note. One of my neighbours from Denmark brought doors, frames, fittings and builders from Denmark because they could not get that same quality in the UK.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostWhy obviously? I had Polish guys work on mine and the work was ok and cheap enough but I paid what I got for. If you are going for such an advanced build do you think your average Polish builder is up to delivering the idea and the quality you are after? I guess this guy is recommended or something? Why are you getting Polish in if there is no expense spared.
I know these high end UK guys that specialise in one off high quality modernisations are expensive but isn't the quality/finish of the work part of it. The recommendations that they can make from experience is invaluable.
I mention it as a friend of a friend spent 70K doing their house up with specialist and it is nothing less than spectacular but they advised on things like TV's you can watch from the bath, the builder recommended some mirror looking flatscreens rather than the ones specified and they are the dogs danglies over what was suggested etc."A people that elect corrupt politicians, imposters, thieves and traitors are not victims, but accomplices," George OrwellComment

I expect they already knew exactly what they wanted but couldn't get that particular style and finish at a price they wanted to pay within the UK because they aren't mass produced here. I refuse to believe that lack of expertise was the problem.Originally posted by Paddy View PostOn a different note. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

That's impressive, so should be worth quite a bit in spite of the 15% drop in house prices since 2008.You of all people should know it was valued at just above £900K in 2008. Guess where the renovations will take it ....
Good Luck.I'm alright JackComment

I don't really expect inteliigent statements from you as you're a bit thick, but even you must know there is not a single housing market in the UK.Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostThat's impressive, so should be worth quite a bit in spite of the 15% drop in house prices since 2008.
Good Luck.
There is a limited supply of family housing in the best areas of London (which explains why a quite modest 4-bed can sell for a million) and prices where I am are showing large increases over last year.
In any case as I am mortgage free I really couldn't give a monkey's about house prices.
HTHHard Brexit now!

My friend owns quite a large building firm and they are shocking, absolutely no professionalism whatsoever.
The workers are rude, thick and useless, the managers incompetent and my mate smokes 2 joints before he gets out of bed in the morning.Comment

don't you ever wonder just where you might have ended up if "Mama and Papa" had not made all the big decisions for you in your early years?“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun. And the first vessel to have departed is Britain”Comment

The moral of the story is if you don't pay any tax don't let your wife do a big spread in the sunday suppliments talking about how much the redecoration of your 14 bedroom country mansion cost.
I'll miss his boat myself.
