It's not rocket science, Pakistan isn't particuarly popular around the world and esp the upper valleys. A lot of the fighters who've killed and bombed our boys (and many other nations) have been trained there.

Forget the emotional tug of little children etc, sh*t happens, they're not seen as a particulary helpful country so they get little in return. It's the democratic voice of the people.

Beats me how you knew what the villages were like before hand. 'course I suppose the entire country is like that in your head.
I have friends from Pakistan. Also friends who do a lot of work raising fuinds for and building schools in outlying villages in Pakistan.

        Try harder next time.

"Day one" of the "second wave" of flooding apparently.

All told, they're a little slow at coming forward. Whereas once again the good old cash strapped 'west' digs deep immediately. A cynic could interpret that as waiting too see if one really has to bother or not.

What's your issue then? So okay the government is corrupt and is set to fall behind Bangladesh in economic terms. This is a country that was advising South Korea way back - and now the average South Korean is 30 times wealthier than the same in Pakistan.

But I'm sure, this time, almost all the cash will get through. Even if the military (the real government) are tempted to take some and hand it to their Taliban buddies and/or build themselves some more palatial barracks.

              I haven't got an issue.

Imo it's a bloody good job that the military are in charge because there'd be civil war on top of floods to contend with.

Its the military that got Pakistan into the state that it is! Zia particularly. It would be great if Imran Khan could make an impact...but for some reason the people don't vote for him. very odd.

Odd also that while the people of Pakistan take money off us. they also spit on our boots. Odd. They are very conspiracy led culturally and mentally too.

Used to be a safe country to visit and the Swat valley is amazing! sad really.

You're right about Zia and the army, I'm not sure about Imran though. I suspect he might make things worse. If Pakistan and India could normalise relations (currently as likely as Israel and Iran co-hosting an international pork festival) that would IMO open the way for the country to make real progress.

Oh yes, Swat is beautiful as is the Hunza valley.
