Do you know what you are talking about? What do you mean that "Jet engines are technology from the 1940s"? I bet you've never even seen a high pressure turbine blade, never mind know what they are made of. Ever seen a compressor blade? Do you know what they are made of? Any idea how they design the combustion chamber and the blades? Do you know why Rolls Royce went bust decades back?

"Who is telling you that the only way to develop sophisticated technology is through a large corporate."

Who said that? I'll get the bugger for you. Hang on while I get me club.

You said: "If you remove your head from your ar*e you might be able to see things more clearly."

Now hang on a moment. It was me that told you that "your head is so far up your backside that you can see daylight". Come on Kobs old chap, get your own insults. Mine are patented.

You know, I reckon that God subcontracted you out, but he gave the wrong plans to the wrong people, so the arsehole ended up where the head should have been and vica versa.

Actually yes I do fatarse - you see my PhD is in Materials Science - and most of the research in titanium alloys used in the fan blades was done in the universities and state owned companies rather than todays' corporates. Yup, that's state sponsored research work that the corporates have exploited as their own.

          Dear Whole-Arse

So why did you write nonsense in your earlier post? And are you aware that the first liquid fuelled rocket was launched (1926) before the first successful test of a jet engine (1937). Standards of PhDs are slipping. Going by your lack of research. But then again, a Ph.D. means feck all, and teaches you feck all. In fact, it is worse than useless as a training for real life.

The fact that the state wasted tens of thousands of pounds 'educating' a half wit like you is proof that there is somethng deeply wrong with state sponsored work.

Look fungas - clearly you are a little boy who needs to play top trumps in order to try and win an argument - the significant development of the Jet engine was in the 40s - and WTF this has to do with corporate domination is anyones guess. Clearly you don't have a PhD, feel inferior, and are as thick as sh*t. How the fu*k do you know that it is inferior - Berners-Lee has one, Einstein had one, Newton had one. What great names have come from your squalid little education ?

People only do PhDs because they're frightened to leave school.

PerlOfWisdom: Not always correct. I did my PhD as part of a really quite well paying contract.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

                  Ooooh, look at her.

Ah but flattery will get you nowhere young Willy Rider.

I bet you got tulipe A levels, scraped a degree from a minor place like the Isle of Wight Poly and then went on to take 10 years to scrape a PhD from somewhere minor too. And you are so pathetic and insecure that you get a hard on when you see "Doctor Knob Jockey" on your letters.

Fungus, not just any old mycelial thread.

Instead of criticising my credentials, fatarse, why not impress the board with yours. Or are you perhaps just a little reticient because you are a half-witted little oik from the council estate ? Mmm thought so.

Isn't fatarse a political party in Palestine?

Anyway, enough of throwing gems of knowledge to the uneducated swine (you), it seems that I was right. You are the one who boasts of being a doctor, so come on, just what do you have? Drop 'em big boy. Let us all admire your qualifications. Oh, and you did publish didn't you?

BTW Anyone can get a Ph.D if they are prepared to work for a pittance for 3+ years on something that few care about to produce work that few will care about. Most of the time it is useless. The skills acquired are of little use in most industrial jobs and in fact are worse than useless, as the skills are counter productive. Only if you want to work on advanced modelling techniques in flow analysis for example is it worthwhile. And you don't make any NI contributions during the Ph.D. so you get less pension entitlement when you are old and knackered.
