He just got off this train shivering and complaining of cold; give him a cup of hot chocolate, I'm sure he'll be grateful.

I was talking to one of the rail enthusiaists at the end of platform 3 at Swindon this morning & he told me that a Bristol - London service earlier in the day was hauled by a Brush 4. A BRUSH 4!. I thought they'd all been decommissioned & I know for a fact that FGW don't have any in their fleet. I suppose there must be some kind of apparatus which allows a rail company to commission rolling stock and locos from other operators when shortages exist. Wish I'd been there to see that one though!

Thought we'd seen the last of it. But no. Thanks for that.

Perhaps the rail company employees phone each other to arrange a loco, or perhaps there's a semi-official 'loco pool' that companies can use when in need.

Took later train; plenty of space, but no electric sockets as it was one of these nasty double deckers; NS VIRM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They were intended for regional travel but have been creeping into use as intercity trains; they lack electricity sockets and baggage space for true intercity travellers. grrr

Train delayed at East Croydon today. Announcement came over the tanoy reminding us not to smoke in the toilets.

Is that still Connex running that service?

Actually, I think you'll find that it isn't.
