They might try, but it will actually reduce the tax income as UK plc is on the downward slope.Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

yes I agree, but try telling that to your average Labour/Libdem voter who only care about keeping their non-jobOriginally posted by threaded View PostThey might try, but it will actually reduce the tax income as UK plc is on the downward slope.Comment

IIRC,
in Ireland they took the rather dynamic step of slashing the tax rates for their really top earners. The thinking was that it is better to get a small percentage of the huge sums involved, with the likes of Bono etc., than a large percentage of bugger all when they choose to keep their dosh elsewhere. Maybe CM can explain whether or not it has been successful?“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun. And the first vessel to have departed is Britain”Comment

I would imagine it would be successful. But again, try explaining that to your average leftie and they won't have a clue. They really do think that putting tax rates up means you get more tax revenue. Non-sequitur. Tragedy is that those lefties consider themselves educated with higher intelligence than average.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View PostIIRC,

SB, I'm sure CM will answer some time when she's back from her jolly but if I can just add that I certainly know that most people's expendible income in Ireland has been curtailed severely. We were over there recently and I had a good chat with some of our friends. The difference between the UK and Ireland is that the Irish are resigned to the fact that they have to pay to help the country.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View PostIIRC,

You're assuming that home OWNERSHIP is 'best' for people.Originally posted by expat View PostClegg is making sense about housing. Only more houses will fix it. Schemes to "help people on to the housing ladder" are smoke and mirrors: if you don't have more houses, then every new person helped on to the housing ladder is somebody else kicked off it.
Where are these people who are not on the housing ladder living now? In a box? No, the lady who asked the question last night didn't look like a street bum.
What's wrong with renting? Oh, I know, it's 'wasted money' because renters miss out on Britain's penchant for housing booms. If we didn't have these crazy booms, there would be no problem with affordable housing.
I don't think building more rabbit hutch houses is the answer.Comment

The Clegg numptie are in my view idiots if they support these kind of stupid policies. Maybe the clegg voters can pay a special tax to fund this amnesty project and the liabilities of all these wonderful illegal immigrants, honest people I'm sureOriginally posted by LegendsWear7 View PostMessage for Clegg numpties
