She’s from Lincolnshire and grew up in a flat above a grocers shop, and went to a fee paying girls school thanks to winning a scholarship. Hardly ‘home counties privileged background’. In fact, the shining example of someone from a humble background rising to the very top through hard work and determination. I disagree with Mrs Thatcher on several issues, but I would not accuse her of being bigoted, scared of hard work or opposed to meritocracy.
