You are quite right.

Headhunting is conducted in order to find a short list of the best/most suitable people within an entire skills market. To headhunt you need to find every candidate and then establish the best/most suitable and then approach them directly.

Getting a phone call out of the blue as a referral from someone else does not mean you have been headhunted, nor does it mean that you are particularly special.

Does 'being headhunted' necessarily make you special? Or could it mean the 'headhunter' is having an off day?

I was headhunted once - from a crapply paid contract to a marginally crapplier paid perm job based solely on my then Sun SunRay kentnisse - saved my bacon at the time, bit of stability at a very rocky time personally......

I am still thankful for that - money is not everything.

Still a rubbish headhunt by sasguru standards but the again mine is based on truth.

Is that right? I thought the definition of head-hunting would be that someone has actually heard of you by name for work/reputation... "Oh, Bob's my network manager, he knows more about this stuff than anyone I ever met".
To me, it implies a personal element, like networking but without you knowing about it.

A mate of a mate is a corporate headhunter. He explained it to me in simple financial terms (in 1998) - if the basic is under £100k, it's not being headhunted.
