Anyone used that vibrating machine thingy? I think I'll have to give it another go for a laugh. I thought it was going to shake my filling out the first time I used it, on maximum of course. It's usually women using it, with legs at all sorts of angles, but they seem to enjoy it.

I have done a couple of big cycle tours crossing over between France Italy and Switzerland spending a fair bit of time at altitude though it's hard to tell if it's the amount of training or the altitude that made the difference - the best answer is yes I feel fitter for being closer to mountains!
I heard there's an athletics club in one of the French ski resorts that holds open sessions during the summer for people who want altitude training. I can't seem to find anything on t'internet though.

I can’t see any other point in it. Ageing and rather tubby ladies like to sit on it, but they might choose to do that in the privacy of their own home, especially seeing as I haven’t yet seen any attractive ladies sitting on it.

There is nothing this far south that I know of I am guessing up towards Briacon / Chambery is more likely because the plateau is higher there - to be honest it's easy enough to do it for yourself - just need to fly to Nice with a bike and a credit card (thats more my bag) there's always plenty of good cheap accomodation at altitude outside of the main Ski season and gyms in all the bigger towns

The attractive ones might want to give the Shake Weight a go [YouTube].

Powerplates are quite useful if used properly within a workout, good for toning more than anything else.

Unfortunately it seems to have be sold to the more gullible as a quick way of losing weight, which it is not.

But any toning effect is surely only temporary; the muscles take on fluid and build up some waste products and the toning disappears in a couple of days. It’s called pseudo-hypertrophy; the muscles haven’t grown, they’ve just been gorged with fluid. For real ‘tone’ you have to train; there’s no substitute for sweat.

Which bit of "part of a workout" did you not get?

I think they are used by people who want to strengthen bone rather than muscle.
