Where's nice to live in the UK?

Trowbridge in Wiltshire is a good spot, there 250 will buy you a massive 5 bedder detached, close to Bristol and commutable to Cardiff.

Get the right train in the morning and it's about 50 mins to London. Oxford has a few 24 hour bus routes too, for when the beer scooter can't cope.
Or you could try Thame which is slightly cheaper (about the same commute but less lively)

Maybe, but I'm a bit worried about chavs and crime in places like that!
Will 250K really get somewhere immune to it but still have the benefits of being close the city?
Strikes me there are smaller nicer places than Liverpool (Chester?) that still have enough of what I'm after.

Anyone got ideas about East coast, Hastings, that kind of thing?

Went to Canterbury for a weekend...quite liked it there

Some nice-ish affordable-ish parts in Cheshire. Commutable into Manchester, Chester, Liverpool, Stoke etc... Not really buzzing with contract jobs but it might be picking up a bit on the work front.

Cheshire is expensive. I'd recomend Shropshire over Cheshire...

Shropshire is closer to Brum and London, Cheshire is closer to Manchester and the Pool so I guess it depends which city is best for your work domain.

Watch out where you look for houses in Cheshire. You might end up next door to this forum's regular 'neighbour from hell'
