Oh I see, so the policemen, the nurses, the teachers, the NHS doctors, and dentists, the army, the navy, the postmen, the social workers, the charity workers, are the very scum of society. They aren't motivated by greed so they are worthless, useless and inefficient.

You make the mistake of taking your own experience and trying to apply it outside your own field. Without doubt IT works better as a privatised industry, but that doesn't mean all other industries should work that way - or will work that way. It is a very narrow-minded view.

Narrowmindedness is the be all and end all of the posters on this board.

They can see no further than the figure on their tax return.

No point arguing with them. Too busy knocking one out over Maggie and Anne Widdecombe.

Still at least I'm content with my lot in life.

They may or may not be motivated by greed, but many are demotivated by the way the public sector works. Why else do doctors and dentists head straight for the private sector at the first opportunity? Isn't that just human nature in operation?
You're right, you can't apply my statement to every facet of the public sector, but as sweeeping generalisations go, it's fairly accurate. No less accurate than saying all privatisations are bad. Railtrack was, btw, I did 2 contracts there, and saw first hand what a mess they made.

Nicked from some website or other... the truth is probably somewhere in between this and your view of her.

          __________________________________________________ ______________

This failed chemist has always said that she ran the country like she would run a household or her father's corner shop. If she ever got her hands on that shop her policies in Government would have finished it off for sure.

The Original Mad Tory Cow first came to national prominence in the 1970s when kids (including oneself - to use the Thatcher way of speaking) labelled her "Thatcher the Milk Snatcher" because she took away our free school drink. I vaguely remember her being interviewed on Ask Aspel by Michael Aspel and saying something that we all wish had become true - "I don't think we will see a woman PM in my lifetime." I have nothing at all against women MPs but I did (as did everyone else on this site) have something big against her.

She defeated the Tory Party's "Teddy Boy" Edward Heath in 1975 to become Leader of the Opposition - a position Sick Billy will never get beyond. Like always, the Tories were 20 years behind the times there. The rest of the world had moved on from the Teddy Boys years before. It was a pure fluke that she won the position. It was only cowardice from Wobbly Whitelaw in not standing against Heath that let her in. As always, she used the opportunity to her best advantage.

The bitch then cut a £1 note in half to show what Labour had done to the pound. Then, as it turns out she was PM when the pound note disappeared completely. Now a £1 is just another coin. And after 18 years of Tory Government is was worth about as much as a 10p piece compared to the infamous Labour pound.

She applauded wildly when the Baby Nazi Hague made his first conference speech. I wonder how she managed to applaud whilst controlling his strings?

When the mad cow entered Downing Street on the backs of the SNP voting down the Labour Government over the narrow failure of devolution (which they would have to wait 2 decades for because of their own stupidity) she quoted the famous prayer of Francis of Assisi on the doorstep. How far opposite her reign really was.

One of the first things her Government did was to shift the tax burden from the very rich to the very poorest by halving the income tax rate for the top earners and doubling VAT. Then on top of that there were the massive increases in the Sick Tax (prescription charges).

Then just to make things worse her Government engineered a recession that nearly wiped out British industry in one fell swoop. More damage was done to industrial Britain under her Government than Hitler's bombs did during the Blitz.

At that stage Thatcher seemed to have all the luck on her side. Unemployment rose to record levels and the opposition were fighting amongst themselves. For a while the traitors in the SDP were leading in the polls and she decided that to make sure she was re-elected she would have to spill some blood. Unfortunately the blood she had spilt was that of British soldiers and sailors in the Falklands. After that her popularity rose and the Tories were re-elected in a landslide.

On the eve of the election one of her senior cabinet ministers, John Biffen, spoke about the dangers of landslide victories and she had him described as "semi-detached". Her brain was certainly semi-detached.

In 1984 the bitch rode her luck yet again and survived the Brighton Bombing. One Tory MP was killed, which let Mickey Portaloo enter parliament. the Chingford Skinhead and his wife were badly injured but somehow she escaped injury completely. The bomber was caught and deservedly drew a life sentence (he deserved it by ******* up.) The IRA said after the bombing that they only had to be lucky once but she had to be lucky all the time. Unfortunately for all of us she was.

In 1986 the Westland Crisis emerged which cost her the services of Leon Brittan and Tarzan. It was said that her famous handbag contained her resignation speech but the Welsh Windbag f*cked it up and she carried on to win another term.

Somewhere (deep in the mists of time, I can't remember which term it was in) along the way her son Mark got himself lost in the desert and then made his millions through her position. Then she delivered her famous "We are a Grandmother" speech when the mad cow made it plain that she had thoughts above her station. The arms dealings of her son have never been properly investigated.

The 1987 election proved to be her final slice of luck. After she had won another term the evil bitch decided to implement the poll tax that led to riots on the streets and massive unpopularity. It is ironic that the IRA couldn't manage to remove her by the Brighton Bomb but when they placed a car bomb under the car of her lapdog Ian Gow the by-election defeat in Eastbourne sealed her fate. She was then savaged by the dead sheep Geoffrey Howe before Tarzan finally got his revenge for Westland by taking enough votes to take the leadership contest to a second round. Some poor bastard had the job of telling her to quit and the biggest crook to occupy Downing Street gave way to Major Disaster, who was an honest man by Tory standards.

In total contrast to Harold Wilson, (who everybody said was crooked but left office with an overdraft) the evil mad cow left Downing Street with millions made in her own right from shady deals, not to mention the millions of her son. Just before she was forced to quit she re-introduced heriditary peerages which had been ended years before with the introduction of life peerages. Not surprisingly one of the first beneficiaries was the drunken old fart Dennis. It is bad enough to imagine the thought of Sir Mark Thatcher, but when she rose to the peerage the nightmare scenario of Lord Mark Thatcher ruling over us was just around the corner. Perhaps this was what prompted Tony Blair to kick the heriditary peers out of parliament.

It is from this website, another bastion of unbiased and objective reporting:

            Kick the Tories

It seems odd that the left leaning people cite revolutionary communist and other loony websites in their favour, whereas on the right leaning side it is the FT quoted.

Or perhaps it isn't strange at all.

Highly entertaining. Anyone remember what the top rate of tax was in 1979? 98%. Still, why let any facts get in the way of a good rant. The author conveniently suffers a bout of amnesia pre-1979. A bit like ManU fans pre-1993...

I wouldn't put much credence in a piece whose first three words are as wildly inaccurate as that. In fact, Thatcher got an honours degree in chemistry from Oxford.

It might just as well have started: "This baby-poisoning chemist..."

I dare say her and Denis made a few bob from their time at number 10, but I don't remember the "evil bitch" introducing legislation that directly benefitted her spouse, like Phony did by introducing the Human Rights Act with his wife a human rights lawyer.

As for engineering a recession, I disagree. She took over with Britain, an oil-producing first World power, having to ask the IMF for a loan under a Labour Government. A lot of stuff about this period has just come out under the 30-year rule and makes interesting reading, particularly reports from the Government saying the country was close to "total economic meltdown".

If you're old enough to remember the 70's, and I was there, you'll remember the strikes, the unannounced power cuts due to industrial action by the mineworkers, whose leaders, such as Mick McGahey et al, were card-carrying members of the Communist Party, and whose policy was to create industrial anarchy as a prelude to a revolution in which they firmly believed. You'll also no doubt remember the piles of refuse in the streets and council gravediggers refusing to bury the dead. This is what got Thatcher into power : before she came in, the Trade Unions ran the country, now it's the Government. She introduced anti-Trade Union laws to control them, none of which have been repealed by New Lie in their three terms of power, so one can only assume they're 100% in agreement with them. They have banned fox-hunting though, which was clearly a more pressing problem than undoing Thatcher-era legislation. Oh, and we have got the "Office for Fair Access" as well, which makes sure enough kids from State Schools got to our "best" Universities. I forgot that.

Ah, the Falklands war. I remember that too. At least her motives for going to war were true ie there actually were REAL Argies occupying a British possession, rather than Saddam's WMD which turned not to be real. And WTF should she have done? Let Argentina have the islands to avoid bloodshed? What happens if France claims the Channel Islands , or Norway claims the Shetlands? Maybe she should have appeased Argentina, like people tried to appease Hitler. "That nice Mr Hitler says they're won't be a war if the German-speakers in the Sudetenland are brought back into Germany. What a nice man he is". Hmmmmmmmm... that turned out to be a load of old wank, didn't it?

CockJock: What you are talking about is a bureaucratic command and control economy as per the Soviet Union. Ever wondered why the Soviet Union collapsed? Until then lefties were praising the Soviet Union for its compassionate system. When it collapsed, they saw the truth, and that the false image was all smoke and mirrors.

Anyway I cannot see why I should pay someone to do a job if someone else can do a better job much more cheaply. It does not make sense. Instead these people should find jobs elsewhere. If we end up propping up fake jobs, the whole country will collapse which is exactly what happened in the 70's and Mrs T. was needed. To see other examples of the creation of false jobs destroying an economy you just have to look at Japan (which is at last starting to shed fake jobs and recovering) and France (which is still in a mess). Japan is especially interesting. It did exactly what you suggest i.e. very slow reform. And we can see the consequences namely an economy in the doldrums for more than a decade and the associated suffering.

Rather than criticise Mrs T. and praise Blair and New Lier, you should instead be praising Mrs T. and criticising those who allowed the country to go to the dogs in the 70's. It is the latter that bear responsibility for the inevitable job losses.

You need to learn that politicians should not run industries. They are usually interested in short term gains, and most simply do not have a clue about running an efficient industry. Think government IT contracts. If you want bureaucratic inefficiency, with overmanning, then let politicians run companies.

It's clear that you do not have a clue about economics.

I know plenty of people who live off the state, when they could get a job, but they do not want to because they are lazy scroungers. All of these people are healthy educated intelligent people who could easily get a job. One took a 'sabbatical' by going on the dole. Another of these people is my half brother who sponges off the Finnish state thanks (?) to the EU.

What we need is a system that forces people to work if they are physically and mentally capable of doing so. If like my half brother they repeatedly get sacked on purpose, then they should have their benefits withdrawn. These people take the piss and I don't see why I should pay someone else to have a lifetime holiday.
