    >And who decides what is "extra revenue" numpty ?

It will be either Ofwat (the regulatory body) or whatever was written into the privatisation Act, more than likely with some provision for adjustment later if required.

    >why aren't they investing to improve all those leaks

According to them, they are. Read what I said again. Slowly. Used to be 50%, now 33%-ish. That's an improvement (of sorts).

Plus you have to bear in mind that the water companies are now paying corp taxes, which they never did under nationalisation (since they never made any "profits").

Still, you keep digging old boy, one day you might just strike water yourself.

Are you telling us that Germany was "a successful economy" and "an economy that worked" even though its income came from raiding its own banks and freezing wages?

Things would have worked pretty well except for opening that second front in Russia - oh well you live and learn.

And supply is certainly limited in that water comes from reservoirs that have fixed capacity. Building reservoirs in urban areas is extremely expensive if not impossible.
Supply is increased not by building more reservoirs but by reducing wastage.

Don't spoil it for him, he was supposed to work that out for himself. Mind you, we'd have been in Colombian Hostages territory long before that was ever going to happen...

God you lot really are a bunch of f*kwits, there is no other word for it. In a market where there is a sole supplier price is determined by the regulator. That is not a free market and it is no improvement over the nationalised system. In fact it is worse since the water companies require a return to their investors.

"and what's beer made out of dipsh*t ?"

And what does the fermentation process do dipsh*t - so you can get your drinking water out of a puddle and not the water company.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                    I preferred version 1!

And they also pay taxes instead of being propped up by them. Sounds like quite an improvement to me. All achieved by doing away with the inefficiencies of nationalisation, i.e. the public sector mentality; who cares if nothing ever improves, we still get paid anyway, so where's the incentive? Sorry to put that into such stark terms, but all my public sector experiences have reinforced this view. By definition it attracts the lazy and incompetent, everyone else goes off to the private sector to better themselves. That's why pay is sh1t in the public sector, they know the useless have nowhere else to go.
