Whitehall job cuts body needs more staff – to cut jobs

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...966706,00.html

"THE government department that is meant to slim down the Civil Service has ballooned in size because of its dependence on external consultants,

Spending at the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) on “external consultancy services” has nearly doubled, from £5.8 million to £9.2 million between 2003-04 to 2004-05. The majority of the contracts were won by QI Consulting, KPMG, Cornwell Management and Mott Macdonald"

This was exactly the scenario mentioned in "Yes (prime?)minister".

Curiously enough the writer of Yes Minister - was it Anthony Jay? - got his story lines by talking with senior civil servants to hear about real life events.

The cynic would say that New Lier are smoke and mirrors.

There was an interesting interview with Jack Straw on R4 last night. It was suggested to him that New Lier were responsible for creating the current distrust of politicians as a result of their successfully painting the previous Tory government as corrupt. (Though Lord knows why the press swallowed it.) Anyway, he agreed that they had gone too far. I was in serious danger of developing some respect for the man. Thank goodness I was sitting down at the time. I thought it was an interesting insight into early New Lier strategy.

As new Labour scum go straw is probably one of the better ones.

Anyone see mastermind last night? Lembic Opic MP (or something?). Crap. Ignorant twat. Like Dianne thicky Abbot thicky, like utterly pathetic Blind Git. All politicians seem to be ignorant and brainless.

No, don't develop respect for this man, at least not for this. Straw knows full well that going as far as they did was as responsible as anything else for getting Labour into power.

No, the real reasons for this "message" are:

          1. Given that the Labour party has since shown itself to be at least as corrupt, if not more so, they want to reduce the temperature of that issue.

          2. Since Cameron started hitting the headlines, Labour are hurriedly cranking up their own "reasonable guy" image in order to compete with him.

This is politics, by definition. To compete in the modern world we need visionaries who have the passion and committment to see through difficult and unpopular policies. Social justice has transformed this country into a much better state than that left by the Tories. Tony Blair and Gordon Brown are responsible for the upturn in Britain's standing. At the end of the Tory reign we were a divided, embittered corrupt country, at the bottom of the European league. Now we are the golden boys in Europe, standing shoulder to shoulder with our American brothers, leading the economic and political will of Europe, setting the standards on free market reform and government reform.

Let the new Socialist order dispel the myth of Capitalism to the 20th century.

            Happy New Year Comrades.

Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                  I preferred version 1!

Tony, Malta Witty is probably xog, or some equally bored soul. There is nobody alive, dead or imagined who could feasibly hold those views.

He's right about one thing though - Blair is determined to be the golden boy of Europe, and he'd sell the UK down the river to do it!
