Alternative medicine covers a lot more than homoeopathy. I'm convinced my chiropractor has helped my back. Put up with nine months of pain, and within two months of treatment I'm sorted. NHS wouldn't pay for it though!

Dunno about homoeopathy - I'm not sure what circumstance would make me give it a go. It would probably be a last resort type thing. Plenty out there who swear it works for them.

I tried it and it worked - granted my cousin who knew a lot about it supplied the stuff but it worked: that and chinese needle acupuncture helped me deal with astma.

This is not to say that there isn't a lot of tulip out there just pretending to be real stuff, but I think people need to know that real stuff does work: you can't placibo your way out of astma attacks, that just isn't possible.

We don't do peer review on CUK.

I've been to a Chiropractor a couple of times. Once after a car accident when I was 19 and my back got knocked out of alignment, and one again about 5 years ago when I did something stupid and knocked it out again.

Both times the Chiropractor realigned my back, the pain went and I've been fine. I also don't just mean a massage either I mean they gave my hips a yank which resulted in an almighty crack (which was a bit worrying at the time) which fixed the problems.

The first Chriopractor I went to also did some wierd stuff with magnets which I would never have belived would work if he hadn't done it. He had me hold a weight and waved a magnet around my arms which somehow lost me the strength to hold the weight with my arms, then he waved it around again and I could hold the weight again. He didn't tell me what he was doing in advance and I was flabbergasted at the time, I still have no idea what the hell he did but it was very freaky at the time.

Overall I don't see alternative medicine as a way to cure ill's but then I don't really see Chiropractor's as the same group as the rest of the alternative medicine group. They actually physically manipulate your bones to put them back into alignment and use a lot of standard medical technology (e.g. x-rays, unltrasonic scans, etc).

            Homeopaths kill people.

Changing the subject, I think it was Jeremy Hardy took the piss out of alternative therapies with:
A plane crashes. There's bodies and blood and screaming everywhere. From the back of the plane a voice calls out: "Make way, make way. I am a herbalist."
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

                I have had a number of injuries and ailments during my life, including but not limited to;
                - severe throat infection
                - dysentery
                - giardia
                - infected cut on left leg
                - broken ribs
                - broken wrist (2*)
                - torn quadriceps
                - torn ankle ligament
                - broken fingers

In each and every one of these cases I have found both relief of the symptoms and a timely cure using a method in which people’s belief seems to be waning, and which bears some responsibility for doubling life expectancy in the last 300 years; modern, scientifically developed medicine and medical methods.

Ah good , at last we have the real brains on the job. Mind you SasGuru does have to declare an interest here - he does already believe in Atmospheric homeopathy, where one molecule of CO2 in a million can melt the glaciers in the Himalayas
                  now thats some placebo

By the laws of homeopathy, shouldn't we be increasing the concentration of CO2, thus reducing it's effectiveness?
