    Dispatches: Behind Enemy Lines

Mujahuddin - not only are they tulip, they lie to the boss about what they did.

It's a wonder those muppets manage to kill 500 coalition troops a year.

They beat the Russians. That's more than most did (except the mighty French of course).

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaliti...in_Afghanistan

"With 512 Operation Enduring Freedom and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) deaths 2009, has been the deadliest year for foreign military troops since the U.S. invasion in 2001, continuing the trend that has occurred every year since 2003"

      So claims are correct.

      Soviet losses there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_war_in_Afghanistan

13,310 Dead in 10 years, or on average double last years' NATO figure.

I'd say given improvements in warfare and much different NATO tactics designed to save lifes of soldiers mujahuddins did extremely well in 2009.

It shows how mistaken it is to underestimate people who are prepared to die for what they believe in (does not matter right or wrong believe here).

        Did you watch the show?

        This lot were properly incompetent.
        • They forgot which one of the remotes fired which roadside bomb.
        • They let the first target drive past.
        • They fired a roadside IED after the target had gone by. The escort fired off 3/4 bursts and got away.
        • They missed with the RPG (fair enough).
        • Then, they blamed the remotes - firing off the second one which went bang instantaneously.
        • They reported to their boss that they had blown up a tank, and killed 5-6 Afghan police.

Doesn't mean they don't get lucky sometimes....

If you look at stats provided you'll see that 500+ NATO troops killed last year is half of what on average Soviet forces were losing - Soviet doctrine usually considers soldiers expendable, so this means that they (Mujahuddin) were not very lucky at all - they did incredibly well against very powerful opposition with high tech weapons that favour long range engagement.

Does it mean that you won't find many examples of mujahuddin doing something stupid and getting blown up? Sure, but that's missing the point - they are fighting off 21st century force using outdated equipment.

Are you saying they are lucky or not lucky?

            I can't make it out.

500 dead ffs, a lot more wounded (often seriously because wounds come from IEDs), how the **** can you call it luck?

Because they looked incompetent on the show. It's obviously UNLUCKY for the coalition, but from a Mujahuddin POV you've got to call it luck if they are all as useless as that lot.

So there are two options, either there's thousands of groups (all as crap but still hitting something) or the further south you get, the better they get.

They may be crap but they seem to be winning.

Do you really think that if the Muj's were anything but inbred fuqwits we'd have been shown the video?

FFS, as soon as the regional commander became aware that his cannon-fodder was being videoed he kicked the camera man out!
