Like Tarquin said, the cake is too small now and without drastic measures no party can fix it.

The economy is serving you well isn't it SG.

Are you just about to buy a cock extension, on your huge wages?????

    Why are you complaining then.
Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.

Do you mean "cursed to spend all eternity on the bench"?
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

what are you worried about then ?
you have a short mortgage - 10 years
          you have language skillz
you are not worried about being in a british expat enclave
you are a contractor and marketable

          ok, now we're farming.....

1, move to France, zillions of great locations to choose from, Dordogne, Normandy, Provence etc
2, Buy a modest place somewhere
3, Be located within accessible distance of an airport - therefore keeping your European contracting opportunities open
4, rent out the UK house to cover the mortgage
5, buy yourselves a nice convertible car for some fun

live nicely, eat and drink well, continue contracting and let the renters pay the uk mortgage

          sorteeeeeeeeeeeeeeed

          howzat ?
          Milan.
          Rubbish.
I have a 10-year mortgage but I can't afford it. Renting out a house will never cover even half of the payments on a 10-year mortgage.
I absolutely do not want to spend any more time in France. My partner puts it more strongly than that.
I am a contractor and do not seem to be marketable.
I am sick and tired of the weekly commute, and of the cost of it.

The economy has served me well. I did very well on property.
And yes I am in an enviable situation.
But I don't see any future for the next generation.

              Milan.
Unlike you Milan I had the ability and skills to make money here, rather than being an economic refugee and going to work all hours God sends on some remote isolated potato farm in central Europe.
However this country has now had its day - I don't see easy cash to be made in the next few years.

As a higher rate taxpayer for most of my life, and with a sober, healthy lifestyle, I have contributed huge amounts to the Exchequer without claiming anything back in terms of dole, housing benefit, NHS treatment etc. etc. etc.
I have probably single handedly supported several chav families.
                    I consider my debt closed.

                      Milan.
Well don't badmouth me for saying it's rubbish, when it is. It's all very well saying you've done your best, what you actually do is try to pretend that you have all the answers when you don't, and in many cases haven't even read the question, or thought about the implications (e.g. 10-year mortgage, cover that with renting out? Elementary blunder).

Don't take it personally, I don't either. It's just a bit of fun and I certainly wouldn't base my future on your suggestions.
