Exactly - and he has a dog, so he could walk the dog at the same time.

although from the sound of it, the dog is also as soft as tulipe if its food needs buying from the vet

      Scooby

Get a Scooby! Good in the snow, have enjoyed cruising past others struggling up the local hill, in my WRX Impreza Wagon.

Cheaper than a Land Rover (though got my eye on a Discovery 3 too)

I am sooo glad I did a big shop yesterday, but also thankful various shops are about a half mile/mile away.

We live on a hill that never gets gritted either.

Yeah, our Primara on our 10% grade can't even make it up the first 100m. And then its a complete struggle to get it parked where it stops. 17" performance tyres which are nearly at the end of their useful life are hopeless in this stuff. We nearly got stuck in the parking lot of our business this morning! I've decided to replace all four with all-seasons from here in.

I've noticed that the people with small cars - micra, clio etal are having no troubles at all on the roads. Which made me think that my 1972 Morris 1800 could do very well.. I may have to bring it out if this carries on.

Had to pick up a parcel this morning, 5 mile walk to post office and back in -6. Hiking boots on, North Face on, plenty of layers, quite enjoyed it.

I wonder what the cost is to cars and other vehicles in terms of rust and other environmentally damaging effects created by all that tulip the council scatters onto the road when it gets cold.

i think the modern cars do not rust like the hilmans and triumphs and fiats that we grew up with

for example, most of the VAG cars are galvanised

Should we get rid of gritters and the nanny state and do as Germany does :

If during the winter months a vehicle becomes stuck because the tyres are unsuitable, drivers are liable to an on the spot fine in Germany. If the vehicle causes an obstruction and aggravation to other traffic, the fine may be doubled.
