It always amuses me when bigots become sarcastic on having their own hypocrisy pointed out to them. It shows that they know they can't actually justify their position, so they have to resort to bluster instead.

b) Actually, Christianity was brought to mainland Britain by Irish missionaries.

It always amuses me when people compare Islam to other religions as if they were all similarly guilty of intolerance. This is PC brainwashing that completely ignores world realities.

While it is quite true that others can be violently intolerant (check out what is happening to Muslims in Nepal or Burma for example) no religion is so consistently intolerant on a global scale as Islam. I don't believe there is any other religion where the state officially bans all public practice by others as some Islamic states do. There are many others where you have to be very, very careful to avoid any appearance of insult to Islam or attempting to convert a Muslim. In some so-called moderate Islamic countries, while it is legally possible to build a church or synagogue, in practice there are all sort of obstacles and other religions like Hinduism fare even worse. Islamic states do not generally accord the same sort of freedom that they expect from us.

Good for the Swiss I say, it's time to say to Islam that tolerance must be a two way process. If there are protests, check out the situation of religious freedom in the states where the protests come from.


PS Re Egypt. This sort of thing is commonplace there as it is in Pakistan. As for the Egyptian government, what do you think the recent moves to bankrupt the Coptic community was about? They really thought killing all pigs would stop swine flue reaching Egypt?
