Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

Some years ago...
A mate and his missus, got an au pair from Czech Rep. the agency's photo was of a studious, spectacled schoolgirl, 19? - She turns up at Victoria coach station, 5' 10" blonde blue eyed goddess with a whispy east european accent. This was much to the surprise of the family employing her. She was always walking around the house scantily clad - didn't lock the shower room door, tiny bikini in the summer etc etc
10 months later - She ran off with my mates wife...

I knew someone who got an au pair, and it was cheaper by dint of throwing accommodation in for free. It meant his wife could work full time so it did pay for itself.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostSounds about right.
Makes financial sense if you have four young kids, but otherwise, factor in all their taxes, holiday pay, sick pay, NI etc and it's a costly luxury.
The au pair was a great cook and they'd never eaten better

Come to think of it I did have an au pair as a cleaner once. The family she was staying with wouldn't let her have the agreed holiday and didn't pay her either, so she found a spot to live and and took up cleaning jobs. She also did my washing and ironing - I used really look forward to getting home on the day she'd been 'cos everything was really spot on.Originally posted by Olly View PostI also try to live on a diet of au pairs

A chap I used to work with used to have an au pair. He recommended against it: "It's yet another bloody teenager in the house".My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment
