A chap I used to work with used to have an au pair. He recommended against it: "It's yet another bloody teenager in the house".

Come to think of it I did have an au pair as a cleaner once. The family she was staying with wouldn't let her have the agreed holiday and didn't pay her either, so she found a spot to live and and took up cleaning jobs. She also did my washing and ironing - I used really look forward to getting home on the day she'd been 'cos everything was really spot on.Originally posted by Olly View PostI also try to live on a diet of au pairs

I also try to live on a diet of au pairsOriginally posted by Sysman View PostI knew someone who got an au pair, and it was cheaper by dint of throwing accommodation in for free. It meant his wife could work full time so it did pay for itself.
The au pair was a great cook and they'd never eaten better

Makes financial sense if you have four young kids, but otherwise, factor in all their taxes, holiday pay, sick pay, NI etc and it's a costly luxury.

Some years ago...
A mate and his missus, got an au pair from Czech Rep. the agency's photo was of a studious, spectacled schoolgirl, 19? - She turns up at Victoria coach station, 5' 10" blonde blue eyed goddess with a whispy east european accent. This was much to the surprise of the family employing her. She was always walking around the house scantily clad - didn't lock the shower room door, tiny bikini in the summer etc etc
10 months later - She ran off with my mates wife...

Last time we were looking I made a fatal FU.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostMy missus rejected the child minder I wanted to hire, who looked like a Bollywood actress.
Instead we had a plain midget girl with wonky teeth.

One of the applicants was a kiwi girl, who'd done some modelling. She sent her CV through, with a photo and she was absolutely stunning. I made the mistake of telling the missus I'd showed her picture to a few of the boys at work, who all said hire her.
Needless to say she was first in the bin.
I'll be getting some wee phillipinio mama soon ...

Re-hire after every affair, and give a few hundred hush money on exit. By paying under the legal minimum and using an illegal the money you save will ensure a decent enough hush fund.Originally posted by TinTrump View PostSome 16 years ago I started seeing an attractive German girl working as an au pair for a married couple in the UK.
