God yeah. I'm going through this yet again at the moment. The obvious assumption is that I didn't get the job, but I thought the interview went well and the agent is insistent that the client is still making a decision.
My interpretation is that the client has big doubts and almost certainly doesn't want me, but the agent won't let it go without a fight. But he also won't actually admit that to me.

So I'm expected to sit here for days on end (2 days so far) with the kind of possibility that I might actually get the job. But also the very strong suspicion that I won't.

Could be that, or could be the agent keeping you hanging on until the successful candidate has accepted and turned up. If he doesn't then you could be in number 2 postion and an easy fill for the agent. So he doesn't want you looking for something else in the mean time.

Yeah, there is that option, you're right. It's a tangled web isn't it. Pretty much everything seems to be a tangled web, come to think of it. We should hire some spiders to sort it all out.

No, it's the other way round. I'm in Paris and still working, but that was a nice role in London, which I preferred as a place to work (and for Thursday drinks, natch). I've been looking out for good stuff because I'm not really enjoying this Paris gig much at all. Very gloomy and humourless company I'm finding.
