Fine this person is an absolute a** but at the end of the day what can you do about it without damaging your reputation. Not much really!

If they are as bad as you say they are people will find out soon enough. You will just need to grin and bear it. The more annoyed you get the more people will dislike you and not him.

My last manager was a schizophrenic and only knew one form of language which was mainly abusive and aggressive. At the end of the day I hated it but put up with it. Everyone there keeps emailing me asking when I will be back! The answer is never but I left a great reputation behind me!

      Good luck with it!

Hate to say it but it sounds like you are the problem
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

So, you hate him and wouldn't mind getting him sacked for being a bit of a ****?

Hmmmmm, would you consdier threatening him to make him leave? Maybe send a couple of blokes round to his place to lean on him? I suspect you wouldn't be up for that as it could, just maybe, backfire and you'd be in the crap - or maybe you're too nice a guy for that anyway?

But you would get him canned if you could? Time for a bit of perspective.

BTW, stitching somone up is probably not a consequence free act - some people would react very, very badly if they even knew you were considering this type of thing.

I just want to note this post because I have been waiting for it for some time:

Merkins use the substitute word 'ass' instead of 'arse' because 'arse' is a 'naughty word'. How terribly childish.

An 'ass' is a mammal not dissimilar from a horse. It is not a dirty word. You do not need to use asterisks to hide the two esses. Indeed, you could just use the word 'arse' instead. The world will not end. OK?

            Now then, the OP's question:

            Yep. It's just you.
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

              Nope its him.

I don't want to go into details on a public forum but there is more to it than him just being annoying. Due to circumstances that neither of us had control over, we didn't start on the right footing when I joined the team. I made and am still making efforts to put that behind us. He's still acting like a cock, and a really gratingly annoying one at that.

smile and think of the money. Life is too short to hate, it only consumes you. Easier said than done, I once wished cancer on my line manager a few years ago cos he was stitching me up - not something I'm proud of.

Given some of the fighting going on else where in the forum I thought I would ressurrect this thread with some good news.

After an olive branch or two which I offered to him, he's dropped his attitude towards me.
We're actually getting along pretty well now.

He's still a loudmouth f***er but at least it now feels as if we're on the same team.

Well done you. Zippy gave me some advice that really worked. Smarted a bit, but then when people care that's the kind of advice you get, truthful and helpful.

Advice was "Don't be such a victim"

Break it down. Bullies need victims. If you let them have their way, you are immediately and irretrievbly the victim.

Olive branches? Twined with barbed wire I hope.

I never really thought of him as a bully, only as a bit of a cock and potential sparring partner.
Either I'm a bad judge of character or he never crossed the line to make him a bully.
As I said in one of my posts, there were circumstances which may explain (although not excuse) his behaviour

No barbed wire, I saw the opportunity to build a few bridges so I took them.
